Painting in San Marco
Single rooms or whole-house. Quality prep, two coats, clean lines, no rushed corners.
St Johns Handyman is a locally-owned handyman service based in Ponte Vedra Beach. We've been handling painting work across St. Johns County since 2010. San Marco is one of our most-served towns — about 32 minutes from our HQ.
San Marco interior walls often have 100 years of paint layered on them. Proper prep — sand, prime, two coats — is mandatory for the finish to lay flat. Original wood windows need glazing-putty refresh during the same paint cycle. COA may apply to visible exterior color changes in the historic district.
Common San Marco painting jobs: multi-layer interior prep before repaint, ceiling repaint over century-old plaster, trim refresh on original 1920s woodwork, wood-window glaze and weatherstrip during paint cycle, and exterior repaint within COA-approved palettes.
What we typically do in San Marco
San Marco's 1920s–1960s housing stock dictates a specific job mix that mirrors what we do in Davis Shores: plaster patching and skim work on original walls, original wood-window glazing and weatherproofing, settled-door rehangs on 90-year-old frames, interior repaint on multi-coat existing surfaces, original-era fixture replacement, baseboard and crown molding repair after decades of settling, and weatherstripping replacements on doors that have shrunk over time. We work within the COA scope for visible exterior changes. We do not do museum-grade historic preservation, lead-paint abatement, or hurricane-impact full window installs in the historic district (specialty restoration territory).

Shiplap, board and batten, painted accent. We do the carpentry and the paint.
Questions homeowners in San Marco ask about painting
How much does painting cost in San Marco?
Most painting jobs in San Marco run $250–$700. Pricing depends on room size, two coats, trim work, ceiling included, color change vs refresh. We give a firm written quote before any work starts — no call-out fee, no surprise bills.
Do you charge a travel fee for San Marco?
No. San Marco is within our standard service area — about 32 minutes from our Ponte Vedra Beach HQ. No travel fee.
Do you work on historic 1920s San Marco homes?
Yes — within handyman scope. Plaster patching, paint, settled-door rehangs, weatherproofing on original wood windows, interior repaint, fixture replacement, baseboard repair. We use bonding agent and veneer plaster for plaster repair rather than dryalling over original walls (which destroys historic character). Museum-grade preservation of original Mediterranean Revival details (custom tile restoration, historic mullion replacement) is specialty trade and we refer out.
What about the Certificate of Appropriateness?
Visible exterior changes — windows, siding, fencing, sheds, additions — require a COA from the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission. Interior work and most non-visible exterior maintenance is unaffected. We tell you on the quote whether your job needs a COA BEFORE we book. For COA-required work we provide the documentation packet the HP commission requests.
How much to paint a room?
Most single rooms (10×12) with two coats run $300–$500 including patching and trim. Larger rooms or two-tone walls run higher. Ceilings add $100–$200.
Do you supply the paint or do I?
Either way. If we supply, we use Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore mid-grade and pass through the cost. If you supply, we recommend you buy enough for two coats (about 1 gallon per 350 sq ft of wall).
